The distribution and buyback contracts are fully autonomous: no owner, no admin key, and no dependency on a third party to keep running or to let you claim. That much you can verify yourself on the explorer today.

Can holders influence which tokens are in the index?

Yes. A weekly DAO vote decides which token enters the index, and holders vote it through. The same vote governs buybacks and how the sinking fund is invested.

Can I lose money in RH500?

Yes. This is a market instrument and it moves with the market. Invest deliberately, and never with money you cannot afford to lose entirely.
